No two people are ever going to agree on a literary canon, but ours in the US is certainly due for an update, and this new list at The Atlantic is a pretty good effort. At the very least, I'm glad to see reading lists like this getting less snobby about genre. Stephen King, Shirley Jackson, Octavia E. Butler, N.K. Jemison. (The Fifth Season being included maybe makes me happiest.) It's never perfect—it can't ever be perfect—but it's closer.

Some good titles here and many I’m not familiar with. But I miss “The Left Hand of Darkness” (Le Guin), “East of Eden” (Steinbeck), “Stoner” (Williams), and “To Kill a Mockingbird” (Lee).
