Here we go!
I bet if you could hear what they were saying, you’d realize neither one can hear the other over all the clapping.
Just like bar conversations with music. You just smile and nod while mumbling a response.
Justice Jackson with an absolutely amazing necklace.
Killing it.
Rep. Greene embarrassing herself and being trashy as normal.
Going hard into Hitler, the rise of authoritarianism, Putin.
Biden hitting House Republicans and Trump on Ukraine funding and NATO.
Mentions Finland and Sweden’s joining, their foreign ministers are in the crowd.
“The insurrectionists were not patriots.”
“You can’t love your country only when you win.”
Biden now turning to IVF and Roe v. Wade.
“Guarantee it nationwide.”
The stumbling definitely undercut the threat to the Supreme Court justices regarding women’s response.
Biden brings up pandemic.
(Oh, that old thing! That’s still… ya know… killing people and ruining lives.)
I think someone shouted “liar!”?
Biden turns to economy.
Speaker Johnson shakes his head when Biden mentions inflation.
Telling a union factory story.
Honestly all of this feels pretty cookie cutter “America is great we are fighters” stuff.
“Four more years” gets chanted, but Biden wants to talk about the future of possibilities so it dies down.
Biden says he’s going to keep lowering drug prices.
Notes Republicans werent helpful in passing the law he is using.
I think Biden accidentally threw Moscow in a list, but made a joke and honestly it sounded pretty natural.
Speaker Johnson looked giddy at the prospect of a screw up lmao
He’s discussing housing affordability and rent affordability.
When was the last time a SOTU addressed rent prices?
Aw man when Biden said he thought it was about 182 but wasn’t sure if it was exactly that he should have said “but don’t quote me on that number, because god knows Fox News will go count.”
He wants to give public school teachers a raise.
In three sentences Biden has cut the deficit by 5 trillion dollars.
Speaker Johnson shakes his head.
Biden now doing call and response with audience.
That was something I don’t remember in past SOTUs?
“No child should go hungry in this country.”
So based on Speaker Johnson’s decision on whether to head shake, head nod, or remain looking constipated, I have determined that raising taxes on billionaires is uncomfortable for him as an issue.
Biden going back and forth with Republicans on proposed 2 trillion dollar tax cut.
He won that exchange and it was planned.
Wonder how much Snickers just paid Biden for those mentions.
He’s now talking about hidden fees.
Oooo we turned to Biden’s Border Bill. And he’s taunting Republicans.
It’s great so far.
CNN keeps turning to Senator sadboi Lankford.
Give him a break haha
Oooo Biden takes up Greene on her gambit. Says the person’s name, weaves it in, and keeps going.
I’d say really pretty well handled?
“We all come from somewhere; but we’re all American.”
Talking about the Freedom to Vote Act.
“Instead of erasing history, let’s make history.”
Listing various legislation they can pass.
Biden now talking climate chance and clean energy.
What was that guy shouting?
Yikes. Be clear if you’re going to embarrass yourself.
We are at the stage of the speech where he is bouncing around.
We went from marijuana to the violence against women act, to gun violence.
Notes Trump was proud of doing nothing on gun violence and said to just get over it.
“I say stop it.”
- ban high capacity magazines
- universal background checks
Says it does not violate 2nd Amendment, he would know, he taught it.
Turns to Hamas attack on Israel.
“We will not rest until we bring every one of your loved ones home.”
“Israel has a fundamental responsibility to protect innocent civilians in Gaza.”
Biden says he’s been working on immediate ceasefire, get hostages home, and ease humanitarian crisis.
US will lead effort to establish the temporary pier on the coast of Gaza (no boots on ground) to deliver aid en masse.
Renews call for two-state solution.
Tells Israel there is no other path.
Biden points out that the China-US economic balance has shifted significantly in the past few years.
That US is better positioned to win that competition now.
Continues his call to cure cancer.
Biden jokes with Senator Graham, it seems to go off quite well too.
I think he referenced Trump by saying “Other people my age…” haha
Biden explains in his long career he’s been called too young and too old.
He just let Nancy know he is serious though that he’s optimistic about the future. For real Nancy. For real.
I’d say that was a great Biden speech.
Idk if it will change anything about anything, but it was entertaining throughout.
I take that back. According to the three Republican CNN anchors we have:
1. HOW DARE HE BE SO UNSTATESMANLIKE? A >>Political<< Speech? Here?
2. He was just an angry old man yelling.
3. The bar was set so low all he had to do was show up, but it wasn’t actually that good.
The response is pretty good too.
Although I think the kitchen background really undercuts the doom gloom and fear.
The kitchen makes me feel safe.
Should have been on the couch with a window behind her and a dark street. Duh.
Senator Britt is effective delivering the speech in this format. It’s funny, it makes me wonder if people were always giving really bad ones because… they were old people.
Like yeah Senator Britt is way overdoing the emotion, and it gets kind of awkward constantly as she jumps from super giddy to terrified and sad, but still better than most I’ve seen.
A double standard? In this economy?
@JasonPerseus Stepford Wife? And the Razzy goes to…
@JasonPerseus but the house invader was a nice touch
@JasonPerseus they were bound to shift the goalposts no matter what
@JasonPerseus The only meaningful federal firearm legislation in the last 16 years was Trump banning bump stocks, and that's currently a SCOTUS issue. Sure would be nice if anything ever came from these threats.
@JasonPerseus I think he was saying “free the cheese!”
@JasonPerseus Thew him off his game a bit, but good recovery.
@JasonPerseus Yea, I think he did that very well.
@JasonPerseus It’s how I treat disruptive kindergartners so sounds about right
