Hello, I'm John. I'm a lawyer working in Toronto, Canada. I practice criminal law and constitutional law. I really try to keep the law talk to a minimum. I'm here mostly for the art, the science, the music, and the kindness. Looking for/trying my best to give generous engagement only. Optimistic. Circumspect.

French poli, terrible joke

Please tell me Élisabeth Borne is Jason’s fascist crushing, socialist aunt.

In seemingly a matter of hours, it’s gone from cold spring to hot summer here in Toronto. Pleasant and disconcerting all at once.

Later than usual, but they’re finally here.

I was listening to Boards of Canada on the way to work this morning, and I started to think, "Are they still cool?" Now that I'm firmly in middle age, I'm keenly aware that music I enjoyed when I was young may now be stuffy, tired, and old. It's a fine line between iconic and cliched it seems.

A soft steady drizzle falling here coating everything in tiny water crystals. Perfect time to share another flower photo with you all. #flowers #photography #peony

This is one of my favorite waterfalls - it is very accessible compared to some others in the Pacific Northwest, and this was one of the lucky times that I was there during some misty weather, and I loved that and the moss about this photo. I’m a big fan of Dean McPhee, an English guitarist who uses loops to create layered compositions in real time. No overdubs. This one is taken from his album “Witch’s Ladder,” released last year.

Gleaned from the awesome @ellearmageddon@twitter.com:

A resource to be aware of right now is aidaccess.org/.

They send the medications necessary to perform a safe, at-home medical abortion to people in countries where abortion access is heavily restricted.

Including the US.

Hello, @feditips. Is there a way for me to link the various servers I’m on so I’m seeing everything in a single feed? Sorry for the newb question. I researched it and couldn’t find a solid answer. Thank you!

In terms of organizing, here are the states that have trigger laws that will criminalize 1st/2nd trimester abortions once RvW is overturned:

Arkansas
Idaho
Kentucky
Louisiana
Mississippi
Missouri
North Dakota
Oklahoma
South Dakota
Tennessee
Texas
Utah
Wyoming

Look for state races to overturn such laws and DEFINITELY look for aid groups providing legal and medical support to women there.

My money’s on Alito leaking the decision himself.

Shouldn't surprise me anymore, but requests for complex, additional legal remedies always arrive right when the pleading is ready to be submitted. Really do wish people would turn their minds to what they want in a timely way. Maybe we all fail in that regard. Maybe that's just a *life* problem.

Being here reminds me of what I initially enjoyed about … that other place back in 2008. No bickering. (Unless you want it.) The freedom to shout into the void about whatever tickles your fancy. I missed this.

Apologies in advance for stumbling around the fediverse & jostling all the valuables.
