@SmudgeTheInsultCat Men should try smiling more.
Excess testosterone definitely plays a role! It can lead to mood swings and irritability—so maybe that’s why they don’t take being called ‘hormonal’ too well .
It’s also funny how calling men 'hormonal' strikes a nerve when it's exactly what’s been used against women for ages to invalidate their emotions. Misogyny at its finest—men can’t handle being on the receiving end of the same labels they weaponize to simultaneously target and dismiss women.
@Susan_Larson_TN @SmudgeTheInsultCat Them: "No, no, no. I won't wear/do that. I don't want to come over as feminine."
Me: "Why not? Are you afraid of being treated like a woman?"
@SmudgeTheInsultCat I'm pretty sure I'm hormonal sometimes, ngl
@SmudgeTheInsultCat i've recently taken to calling myself non-binary; i hope the threat of being cancelled for criticising the #gender stuff deterers the #feminists. I'm a bio-male, who despises sex-based slanderous accusations.
@platymew Heh. Being trans or non-binary opens you up to new and exciting forms of sexism, but it doesn't really protect you from much. (Well, presenting masculine protects you from some sexism, but that's more the implicit biases stuff, like workplace promotions. Unless you're stealth, it's no panacea.)
If it feels right, though, I say go for it. If even anti-feminist people feel comfortable calling themselves non-binary in public, I'd say feminism is succeeding.
@wizzwizz4 well, it doesn't exactly feel right.
For me, it's more like struggling for my self-determination. I'm an atheist, because theists tend to have the weirdest ideas (magical thinking) about my identity. Especially astrologists - they think they can force a psychological classification onto me, because was born in a certain month. IMHO, feminists are similar weirdos, just sex-based.
Nuffin'gainst (those) weirdos - they're just not celebrating in MY garden of joy!
the pacifist way.
@platymew I don't like the paradigm either, but it's important for communication. Until recently, feminists were the only ones who acknowledged that certain classes of people existed: nowadays, most non-feminists only do so to denigrate, oppress or fearmonger.
Regarding your description of feminists: those lines of thinking were common, but are now considered anti-feminist by many feminists.
Have you heard of "agender"? I suspect it might feel more right. https://nonbinary.wiki/wiki/Agender
@wizzwizz4 aye, agender fits better!
As an atheist, i don't like the dualistic attitude (thought process) - imho, there's almost always at least a 3rd option.
E.g.: the trolley problem - i'd run, and seek legal advice - no matter what i'd do, my butt's getting sued. (well, Spocks "needs of the many" still applies, so it'd depend on the size of the trolley, and the local political system, i guess
)
nice chat! thanks, mate
@SmudgeTheInsultCat Actually, everyone is hormonal because they produce hormones and are affected by them. I shall refuse to be insulted by such an errant assertion, not that my gentlemanly demeanor would betray an emotion like that anyway.

@SmudgeTheInsultCat Testosterone is a very violent chemical.
@BackFromTheDud @SmudgeTheInsultCat As a chemical, it's fairly inert. And testosterone doesn't cause aggression (per se): that's a popular myth.
@SmudgeTheInsultCat Not to be that guy, but two wrongs don't make a right.
Mind you, it's fair game if I'm enough of a jerk myself to say that to women or AFAB peeps.
@SmudgeTheInsultCat Fun fact: cis women's estrogen cycle is monthly, but cis men's testosterone swings up and down every single day.
@SmudgeTheInsultCat You've upset my hormones!
@SmudgeTheInsultCat you can also drop the "r", if you really wanna see some fireworks...
@SmudgeTheInsultCat
They have daily hormonal fluctuations
