@erincandescent@queer.af I was never verified, so they probably had a size threshold, too. Or I suppose it's possible it was turned on by default when I joined - I joined in 2018.

Who knows. But now I have a name for the thing that I think needs to be here for folks like myself to have a good time here.

@TechConnectify @erincandescent It was turned on by default for all users at some point (2017? 2018?), a year or two after being introduced.

@gsnedders @erincandescent@queer.af ...and if the people who abandoned that ship when Mastodon was just starting up never experience Twitter after that point... that may explain why we're talking past each other.

@TechConnectify @erincandescent Honestly, even as someone with thousands of followers on Twitter (and high-hundreds on here), having it on v. off never made that big of a difference to my experience most of the time, because even my "successful" tweets mostly didn't get that many responses.

And it sometimes hid notifications from mutuals—which I do want to see! But I'd occasionally post something that gets rabid transphobes in my mentions… it was better than nothing, but not great.

@TechConnectify @erincandescent I suspect both scale of reach and the nature of what you're posting have a pretty big impact on how much the quality filter actually mattered—to most users, it probably did little because they simply didn't get enough notifications to care.

Plus, in your case, I presume a lot of the problem is pedants being pedants, which may well mean you get even more responses than many accounts of your size?
