@andOlga@girlcock.club I'm gonna push back on this:
I don't think this is algorithmic in the slightest. This isn't limiting what users get to see in their feed - it's limiting what people who post things might see in their notifications.
And fundamentally, I do not believe people have a right to put their words in front of anyone else.
@andOlga@girlcock.club Would I support an algorithm tinkering with the feed? Probably not. At least, not unless that algorithm itself was opt-in and auditable/reasonably open source.
What I want is not that. I would honestly call it a necessity for platforms with any scale - there is literally no way I can even USE my notifications right now. That might be fixed with simple stacking (which would minimize a lot of this irritation, too) but it's not enough.
People do not have a right to be a dick.
@TechConnectify @andOlga Honestly I think such a quality meter/filter should exist. The internet brings out the worst in many people. Obviously this would be optional, and I'm sure plenty of ActivityPub compatible servers will choose not to implement such a feature, as it is their right....
@TechConnectify @andOlga what you're describing can be implemented in a client. I also found shared block lists useful - and again can be implemented orthogonally to mastodon via clients.
@TechConnectify @andOlga and there might be clients that implement those features. I haven't looked yet.
I just think that the main mastodon implementation is both a server and a client which confuses the conversation. If people considered what a client can do in fedi where the API is open as opposed to the walled gardens where they're restricted, there's a lot of scope to address issues.
@TechConnectify @andOlga you are not the only one who wishes that his interactions would be pre filtered and categorized. If there was a service which offered a custom client (web, iOS, Android) for people with many followers for a sane fee, my guess would be that this service would be popular.
Hiding bad interactions, clustering notifications is all they would have to do.
