DeepSeek just released a new multi-modal open-source AI model, Janus-Pro-7B. It’s a text-to-image generator which it claims beats OpenAI's DALL-E 3 and Stable Diffusion on benchmarks.
Since it’s licensed under the MIT license, it can be used in commercial applications without restrictions.
@carnage4life Prediction: OAI and Anthropic are screwed, MS benefits slightly (lower capex; they didn't give OAI money just free compute who cares), Google is a disaster anyway, Apple trundles along squeezing 30% out of iOS developers.
@carnage4life I'm going to run out of popcorn at this rate
@carnage4life You mean OpenAI will start using it as their backend to save operating costs?
@carnage4life The investment is not all in training. Commercial applications require a lot of investment and Deepseek still has to have specific commercial applications built around it that add user value.
This is week 1 of that reality. So the jury is still out.
But the hype is chaos.
@carnage4life will try this soon.
