i don't entirely think that "software bloat" is 100% unwarranted (modern-day software has much higher demands for security, Unicode support, can be expected to render its UI on larger displays with higher resolutions, etc.), but the fact that today's computers and phones, with powerful multi-core cpus, still lag doing basic operations, is embarrassing...
