I wedged <a href="https://mas.to/tags/StarTrek" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>StarTrek</span></a> in everywhere I could!</p><p>Also, growing up on Trek was a gateway to me becoming an actual <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Marxist" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Marxist</span></a> in my teens as both posit a future utopia. The beloved <a href="https://mas.to/tags/FullLuxuryQueerSpaceCommunism" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>FullLuxuryQueerSpaceCommunism</span></a> that you also find in <a href="https://mas.to/tags/IanMBanks" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>IanMBanks</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/CultureNovels" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>CultureNovels</span></a></p>
Laura says<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@jameswynn" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>jameswynn</span></a></span> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/bookstodon" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>bookstodon</span></a></span> </p><p>I agree with the fan consensus that you can read the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/CultureNovels" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CultureNovels</span></a> in any order. The stories interconnect more on the meta level than as a serialized tale. Events echo. History resonates.</p><p>Anyway, a couple faves:</p><p>Excession is one not to miss. (It was available only in mm paper a few years ago.)</p><p>My absolute favorite is The Hydrogen Sonata, the last one Banks wrote. Hauntingly beautiful. The pinnacle of the series imho. Sublime.</p>
