It was the perfect day to give my new FT-891 go box a spin. I drove into D’Aguilar National Park just 45 minutes away from home only to find the road to my carefully selected spot closed due to storm damage. 
Luckily, there are plenty of picnic areas in the park and Bellbird Grove has lots of trees and tables. I activated the park (AU-1411) on 20m with 40 watts and an EFHW antenna. I even got a surprise QSO all the way over to Texas!

The replacement screen for the kit built ATU-100 arrived and is installed, so I could start testing it. First run through was on the doublet - which is about 21 metres per side and fed with window line to a 1:1 balun, before a short length of coax takes it into the shack. It matched perfectly except on 6 metres and 15 metres, and only between 2:1 and 3:1 on top band. Not a bad effort. Tried it then on the end fed half wave for 40m. That tuned perfectly on all bands from 6 to 160m. #hamradio
Currently (23 Apr / 0930z), VP2VI seems to log 17m FT8 as 40m FT8 Qs. Beware. #hamradio
Just had the craziest 90mins on the FT8 weak signals mode working a pileup on 18.100Mhz, totalling 46 contacts, mostly from Europe.
Briefly tried the #Quansheng (IJV Firmware) for #2MetreTuesday last night, but listening to its output on another radio, heard an odd “ringing”. It keyed OK but didn’t entirely stop emitting a weak carrier in between dits/dahs. I wondered whether STE caused this, turned it off, little change. Any ideas? #HamRadio

Newly updated #POTA go bag. Decided to take a smaller LDG tuner (Z-11 Pro II) with me in the field; certainly packs better. (Not depicted: My JPC-12 vertical antenna bag.)

Called CQ (requesting any contact) on the 15 meter wavelength band and an operator in Wisconsin just a few miles from my hometown reached out.
Switched to 17 meters and made a nice contact with France right after that.
