Caramelized ShallotsI made sure to get out to Alley Pond Park in Queens yesterday to catch peak blooming of the glorious trout lilies! I love trout lilies. These are American trout lilies (Erythronium americanum) They are native to most of the eastern halves of the US and Canada, although other species in this genus are found throughout North America. They attract many types of native bees and other insects. ⬜️🌙On the way to pick up my daughter from school, I noticed something red/pink in the grass. I recognize all the weeds and flowers there. That’s why this one popped out for me instantly. Then we took this photo because my daughter loves to use the PictureThis app to learn more about plants. We learned that it’s called coastal indigo. We can grow it easily here. Like any native plant, it’s not readily available in regular stores.
