Today Kid2's boyfriend messaged me to ask me about making bechamel and I asked if it would be OK to call (Kid2 was at work and he was making pasta bake for them both to have for tea tonight).

We chatted about bechamel and what to do if it caught on the bottom, and then after we hung up, he texted a few more questions and got on with the cooking.

I love that it's not just my kids but also their friends who message and call to ask cooking questions. I recently talked to a friend about my realisation that maybe I chose to have several kids because I wanted them to have the closeness I missed out on. I look at how they're getting older and I think, maybe it's working, but also, meanwhile, I have all these connections with community in a way I didn't have, growing up. And that was unexpected, but it's so welcome.

Oldest got accepted into his university of choice! We’re so happy for him while at the same time sad he will leave home (and the country) soon. So now we have to deal with getting him accommodation which won’t be easy but I’m sure we will manage. And then the move etc. So much to think about.

My daughter was just watching Bluey and it prompted her to ask if moms get time off work to take care of babies.

I had to let her know there are two countries on Earth that officially don't give a shit about babies this way and ours is one of them.

It's kind of awful to have to explain this to my 8 year old and far worse under the current admin where everything is guaranteed to be worse for her.

Here's a delightful picture Child B drew. It's me, and a pig, doing some weightlifting, while standing on a rainbow. It's lovely. I've never done any weightlifting, with or without a pig workout buddy, or while standing on a rainbow - but that's hardly important.
