Just corrected a math test and realized I had forgotten to included a line for the parents to sign below. Annoying mistake! But, telling myself now that at least I didn't tank the global economy and erased trillions of dollars. That's some comfort.

Feeling slightly knocked sideways by this documentary - Rose Ayling-Ellis: Old Hands, New Tricks.

I have felt since I was a kid that BSL was something strange, intriguing, exclusive, and also largely unknown to and misunderstood by us hearing people.

I think that's why I have such an interest in Welsh - to the linguistic majority (i.e. English speakers), Welsh seems similarly obscure and exclusive and misunderstood.

I wasn't expecting this to make me cry, though. Opening up communities to welcome newcomers and celebrate difference is so, so, so important, as is to nurture a sense of community, and demonstrating that age *is no barrier* to learning a new skill.

If you can watch this, do. I highly recommend. I wish I could download it to share it too, as I know iPlayer isn't available worldwide.

- This, gentlemen, is a… oh, excuse me, I did not check the list of students. Are you all gentlemen, or, well, are there any females among you? Please, point up. None? Okay, then. This, gentlemen, is a phraseoplectotronic disambiguator. You need it for, well, um, disambiguating phraseological misadvancements, you know, that’s – well, I’m talking of – no, let me start again… This’ gentlemen, is a device whose invention has dramatically changed the course of svarnetics in general and especially of the Kronshagen interpretation of parallel semiotics. It can switch between several layers of indistinct meaning so that the ontological boundary between author, character and recipient becomes informationally semipermeable. What at first sight looks like another complication turns out a solution to several interpretational problems, difficulties and – as mentioned before – misadvancements, but only if you toggle the single-reader-mode which allows you to directly contact other narrative instances for – oh, there seems to be a question. Yes, Mister… We’re listening.

- Phaaaie – hsss aaaaa jsss ffffffhhhhsssaaaaaa….

- Well, thank you, I think, I understand your question very well. You ask for an everyday example of using the disambiguator and I’m happy to explain one to you. Imagine you tell a story of body horror – you, alone in a group of, say, skeletons which are sitting around you and expect you to tell a story about, well, something about a teacher who has to explain a certain device to a group of students who look pretty much like, um, skeletons and – oh no! I forgot to activate loop protection, I mean, I said, the device can help you out with sentences to disambiguate several, you know, like, this, gentlemen, is a…

Taught a bonus lecture for a course on Algorithms for NP-hard Problems today. Material won't be on the exam, so technically, this lecture was "just for fun".

Quite some pressure to make coming to class on Friday morning 8:45am worth it for a gang of 20-year-olds.

Students were a hoot. They were listening actively and participating. Great to meet them. Had a blast 🙂

Afterwards, some of them thanked me for the "really great lecture" 🥺

Ab-so-lute-ly exhausted now.

Digital & competence-oriented testing – findings from the ii.oo project

#Digitalization 🌐 is not only changing our #society, but also the way we #teach & #examine. In order to optimally prepare students 🎓 for the demands of the #JobMarket, #teaching & #examination formats must also be further developed.

This is precisely what the #project “ii.oo – Implementing #digital #CompetenceOriented examinations” is addressing. Check out: 🔗 t1p.de/hdadt

One of my students, after eight months in my classroom, opened up to me about her depression as well as her trauma from the cult church her family was in for much of her life.

It was an intense hour of just sitting and talking with her. I gave her information on free counseling and support for teens in domestic crisis, but other than that, I just listened. I'm hoping I did some good.
