He was assessed a head tax for being a white male over age 21 and a property tax on 356 acres of land. His acreage bounced around from year to year, ranging between 300 and 500 acres. I think the tax collector did not keep very good records. We tend to think that taxes are new, but our ancestors tell us differently. Is Jonathan my ancestor? He's family, but there is debate about our Allee line that involves him (hence the pain of digging through tax records).
#genealogy

Flominator
Mainly, the #grandma recordings of today were about me telling her about my #genealogy research results, though. I would have preferred her telling more stories, but hopefully the next recording will contain revelations again. I'm still pretty impressed with all the traveling she did, especially that she went on a cruise which even led her to St. Petersburg (Russia) in the 1970s. She said, she already kept a diary back then, but I don't have any diaries of her, unfortunately.
