Via Summit Treya: “I am reposting this at top level for improved visibility. Please share with your networks. The SAVE act is a veiled attempt to disenfranchise married women voters. It just passed the House. It is likely to pass the Senate. If you got married and did not go to court to legally change the name on your birth certificate, you will not be allowed to vote in Federal Elections, unless you have a passport with your current name you can use as ID. /1

If you don’t go to court to legally change the name on your birth certificate otherwise, you will be permanently removed from the list of eligible Federal voters. Your marriage certificate is NOT legal proof of a name change. As many as 69 million women who have taken their spouse’s name do not have a birth certificate matching their legal name. Those with passports that match their current legal name will be ok. Real IDs from states cannot be

used for the most part, because they don’t show birth city/state. If you never changed your name, even if you got married, you are ok if you have a registered copy of your birth certificate or a passport showing your name. The issue is that your birth certificate name needs to match your current name otherwise, as most people do not have passports. Don’t wait until 2026 to address this, as I assume it will pass the Senate.

Ostensibly, it is focused on undocumented immigrants. Under the radar, it’s an attempt to repeal the 19th amendment.

It also affects some men as well, primarily those men who have changed their name and most lower income voters who tend not to have passports and may not have a registered copy of their birth certificates.)””
