Key to unlocking growth in your career is understanding your work style and if or how to make it compatible with your workplace.
If your work style doesn’t align with what organization values you either need to adjust or move on.
For instance, I’ve realized I am very outcome focused and have a bias for action. I care more about results (more users, more revenue, etc) than the path to get there (technology choice, process, business model). A lot of organizations and people don’t work this way.
@carnage4life I like this. What other dimensions have you identified and understood about your style vs organization (like results vs process)?
@carnage4life Agreed. I'm very much the opposite, in a lot of ways. I love the tech, and I'm a great believer in the idea that code is art and should be a thing of beauty for its own sake. Hence I also very strongly believe that Software Development is a creative pursuit, easily on a par with painting or writing or cheffing....
I care about the outcomes too, insofar as the greatest app in the world doesn't do any good if nobody's USING it (so more users is good), and I love getting feedback from the people using it, because that helps make the system better. But I also think the journey is as important as the destination. :-)
