An analyst estimates that Apple is selling 12% fewer iPhone 16s in its first week of sales than it did iPhone 15s last year. It’s always important to take these analyst reports with a grain of salt as they are estimates not facts.

That said, Apple Intelligence is the big selling point and it isn’t out. So people are mainly buying it for the slightly better canera and promise of built-in AI in future updates.

The threat of AI is making me want it less. Maybe in a year or two this horrible trend will pass and there will be some more focus on the camera, battery life, and heck... colors.

@carnage4life I think it’s unlikely that most of the iPhone market is aware of the Apple Intelligence rollout schedule. The impact of the staggered rollout was to muddy Apple sales pitch for the new phone, so what consumers recognize is that they haven’t heard a clear reason to want to upgrade.

@carnage4life … or, they’re just due for an upgrade (like me) and don’t care about either the new camera or AI features. 🤷🏿‍♂️

@carnage4life The feature I’m most excited about is USB-C. Fewer cables to bring with me on vacation.

On more than one occasion I have forgotten the USB-C cable for the iPad and only had Lightning. By next week, that will be a thing of the past!

@carnage4life "only" 37 million units is quite a framing. That's fairly close to one in every two hundred people in the world buying one.

@carnage4life or maybe the entire opposite is true warc.com/content/feed/ai-is-a- “We looked at vacuum cleaners, TVs, consumer services, health services,” said Dogan Gursoy, one of the study’s authors and the Taco Bell Distinguished Professor of hospitality business management at Washington State University, in an interview with CNN. “In every single case, the intention to buy or use the product or service was significantly lower whenever we mentioned AI in the product description.”

@carnage4life I just don’t know. Feels like there may be an alternative to “we are waiting for AI” to explain low sales on an expensive electronic purchase with an AI label slapped on it. “The negative response is more pronounced in high-risk categories – expensive electronics, financial services, medical devices.”
