Two oligarchs with no government standing have created an entity falsely named as a government department. They are hiring private employees outside any official process. These operatives are interfering with actual government employees.
How is this legal?
Even a political appointee has to be appointed. If Elon Musk is creating a shadow government, even with the tacit approval of the president-elect, it's a constitutional emergency.
@gleick I have wondered about exactly that - an unofficial government official.
I've imagined that sometimes people will point out in a court that the official is not an official - an courtier without a court.
But at that stage a lot of people will have already caved-in to the assertion of authority and a lot of legal $$ spent.
Is it time to re-read The Ox Bow Incident?
@karlauerbach @gleick I have not heard of "The Ox Bow Incident" before and just read the plot on Wikipedia. I don't think it is applicable to today's USA: the lynching mob in the movie actually felt shame after they knew they killed the wrong persons.
@gleick This post alludes to the hyper-secretive nature of the DOGE: https://vinay.sh/i-am-rich-and-have-no-idea-what-to-do-with-my-life/
Public institutions must be in the public interest & beholden to us. In which case, nothing should be hidden.
@oldshabbyhat @RFDave @m8ta @gleick too late for a clown show, elon via doge, got house republicans to cut childhood cancer research funds. And he's not even inaugurated yet.
@gleick The Republicans sure went crazy when Roosevelt did it.
@gleick ...it should be the Democratic Party setting up a shadow government....(see the UK).....
@gleick is DOGE a private company? Part of the transition? Who is listed on the W2 when people get paid?
