You know what I wanted to be mad. I wanted to say "Come on what is this!?" but now that I'm thinking about it I think it's cool that TV shows used to have gimmick episodes like this one, where the crew of Deep Space 9 play baseball.
It's nice that they used to spend the money to make episodes of TV shows where it was clearly just the writers fucking around.
Like say you want to reduce poverty. Why? To me it's because I hated being in poverty and I don't want anyone to feel it.
But there's no rational reason to care. There's no universal truth in existence that says suffering is bad and we should avoid it or avoid causing it in others; there's only our feeling bad when we experience it or see it in others or believe we have dine it.
Even utilitarianism doesn't explain why suffering is bad, it just assumes so and then says we should minimize it.
Trying to understand why people do what they do rationally is a sucker's game. I think for 90% of people, ideology is something they arrive on to explain to themselves ex post facto why they feel the way they do about things, to feel like their worldview is more than just a collection of gut feelings.
But at base, no matter what, there's something at the base of anyone's psyche that just cannot be expressed rationally.
Actually you know what he was ok in Fargo too other than the not great accent, and nobody in that show or movie had a good Minnesota accent. I don't mean to be too harsh on him.
