Alpha1Nine :funkwhale: :sofia:A very early memory of my <a href="https://aus.social/tags/granddad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#granddad</a>.Sitting beside him as he drove around town delivering <a href="https://aus.social/tags/honey" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#honey</a>.This was a small town in North Queensland, I was pre-school age & he was driving a beat up old model T Ford truck.He seemed to have regular deliveries & would pull up at a house, walk in with some jars of honey from his hives & walk out with some eggs or a chicken or sausages.Very rarely, he’d be given money for his honey. My memory only recalls that the coins were silver - sixpence for honey maybe? A shilling sounds too much, a threepence too little. I’m probably wrong.I remember being bumped around on the journey, I remember sitting next to my granddad - but I have no recollection of his face at all. His body seems, for me as a child, to end at his shoulders. I guess he was tall & I was just looking at things at my eye level.We were visiting on holiday & by our next visit, he was dead. (He had owned a small gold mine when he was younger & he died from <a href="https://aus.social/tags/miners" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#miners</a>' <a href="https://aus.social/tags/phthisis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#phthisis</a> So I remember the honey selling but not his face.His truck was very much like this pic I found on the web, but it was just a flatbed with no sides & was rust coloured. From all the rust I guess :)
