Trying to #debug a playback issue on my #Roku and it is annoying the hell out of me. I have a #tvheadend #server (CPU only) feeding a live #MPEG2 video #stream to a #Jellyfin server with a #Nvidia #Quadro #K2200 for #hardware acceleration. When hardware #encoding is turned on, the Roku can play transcoded rendered movie files but not the live stream. When hardware encoding is turned off (decoding still on), the Roku can play transcoded movie files and the stream. #WTF why one and not the other?

@Newmy Love this sort of thing, feels so niche but probably something people have be fudging into existence for ages with separate box running #TVHeadend to stream the FTA content. I like it! Price seems reasonable for $100 considering a RTL-SDR dongle is going to cost you $30 anyway!

Ha! Been struggling getting my #live #antenna #TV working right with #Jellyfin tonight so we could watch a live #countdown for #NYE tonight. Unfortunately Jellyfin doesn't have access to a GPU for #transcoding (#VM in a CPU-only #server). Using a dual-core #Protectli device for the antenna ingestion. Neither machine doing well transcoding. Finally figured it out by having #TVHeadend copy the video codec from the antenna and transcoding the audio to #AAC locally. Load is about 20% each, now. :D

Currently working on a m3u manager that creates a subset of "wanted" channels. Mainly due to a heavy configuration overhead in #tvheadend

Parsing the metadata via regex was quite fun to figure out... never worked this intensive with non-capturing groups in #regex.

The regex in question:
(?:\(?logo="(?<logo>[\S\d]+)"\)?\h)?(tvg-id="(?<tvgId>[\S\d]+)"\)?\h)?(tvg-chno="(?<tvgChNo>[\s\S]+)"\)?)?,(?<name>[\s\d\D\.]+)?

Is #tvheadend the best I can do for an open #DVR? Don't get me wrong, I love tvheadend. It is pure magic. I literally used to dream of something like this back when we were inventing portable Linux. But the DVR experience is so very bad. Jellyfin and Kodi can interact a little, but even that is awful outside of basic playback.

So we're finally moving to drop cable, even though we'll lose our epic channel bundle. Yesterday I paired an hdhomerun with an attic antenna, and now PBS is teaching me to make manischewitz and doing terrible raps about Siracha. I got super lucky and it was almost perfectly aimed on the first pass. (I may have to tweak it for NBC eventually but everything else I expected is working.)

This reminds me of the early Tivo days, when I would find it watching PBS on the weekends. Our electronic monk would record "BBQ University" and still be watching when I got up, so I'd sit down with my coffee and join it.

Once we get the broadcast tuned in, its time to upgrade the downloader arm with some usenet. I might also grab a directional antenna to add Baltimore stations for football season.

(The channel bundle has been evolving since before Verizon figured out this whole cable thing. Tons of freebies, and I think we get 20 channels that aren't even on the modern plans. The thing is, 400 unwatched channels is just as useful as 0 unwatched channels. Why are we paying for them again?)
