Andy Hort<p>I've got a hospital appointment this afternoon, and decided to walk rather than take the car. Although the walk is through town, it took me down this path, which made the walk a pleasure.<br><a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/footpaths" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>footpaths</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/holloways" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>holloways</span></a></p>

Helen Clayton<p>So I made it to Ipplepen. A bit later than planned but I’m not really on a schedule today. The steep lanes up out of Totnes were so peaceful, lots of birds in the trees &amp; hedges. Had a lovely tuneful aerial display from a large flock of linnets. Watched this greater spotted woodpecker for some time, moving between two veteran trees. Still lots of butterflies about in the early autumn sunshine. On my way to Torquay now.</p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/Walking" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Walking</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/SlowWays" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SlowWays</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/nature" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>nature</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/birds" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>birds</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/butterflies" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>butterflies</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/insects" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>insects</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/trees" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>trees</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/holloways" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>holloways</span></a></p>
Hari Tulsidas<p>Holloways are ancient sunken roads that riddle the southern English countryside, dating back to the Iron Age. They are the result of centuries of erosion by human and animal traffic, creating deep and mysterious passages that reveal the history and culture of the region. Holloways are also rich in biodiversity, hosting rare plants and animals that thrive in sheltered and humid environments.</p><p><a href="https://masto.ai/tags/Holloways" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Holloways</span></a> <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/England" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>England</span></a> <a href="https://masto.ai/tags/History" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>History</span></a></p><p><a href="https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20230813-holloways-englands-mysterious-sunken-roads" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">bbc.com/travel/article/2023081</span><span class="invisible">3-holloways-englands-mysterious-sunken-roads</span></a></p>

Helen Clayton<p>Reviewed <a href="https://mas.to/tags/SlowWays" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SlowWays</span></a> Okehampton to Chagford today (with a side quest to Belstone). Had drizzle, driving rain (my boots leaked, despite reproofing ☹️ - having wet feet sucks) then sunshine. Fortunately I was sheltered from much of the rain by some gorgeous green, mossy <a href="https://mas.to/tags/holloways" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>holloways</span></a>. The one in 3rd pic was incredible - a deep, narrow bridleway leading to a ford &amp; stepping stones over the river Teign (one for my top 10). </p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/walking" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>walking</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/hiking" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>hiking</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/mosstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>mosstodon</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/ferns" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ferns</span></a></p>

Helen Clayton<p>Reviewed a couple of <a href="https://mas.to/tags/SlowWays" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SlowWays</span></a> today, Moretonhampstead to Widecombe-in-the-Moor then on to Ashburton. Lovely bluebell-lined paths, a couple of <a href="https://mas.to/tags/holloways" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>holloways</span></a> &amp; quiet lanes with hazy views across <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Dartmoor" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Dartmoor</span></a>. The routes followed parts of the <a href="https://mas.to/tags/DartmoorWay" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DartmoorWay</span></a> &amp; <a href="https://mas.to/tags/TwoMoorsWay" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>TwoMoorsWay</span></a> but I didn’t see many other walkers. Lots of birds &amp; animals to say hello to though.<br /><a href="https://mas.to/tags/Walking" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Walking</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Hiking" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Hiking</span></a></p>
Helen Clayton<p>A change from my usual solo bimbling, yesterday I teamed up with a couple of fellow slowwayers to <a href="https://mas.to/tags/hike" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>hike</span></a> a couple of <a href="https://mas.to/tags/SlowWays" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SlowWays</span></a>, from <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Axminster" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Axminster</span></a> to <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Colyton" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Colyton</span></a> &amp; then to <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Honiton" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Honiton</span></a>. Our combined forces meant we were able to ‘snail’ (verify) two routes &amp; review an alternative option. </p><p>Great routes through beautiful <a href="https://mas.to/tags/EastDevon" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>EastDevon</span></a> countryside, following a good part of the <a href="https://mas.to/tags/EastDevonWay" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>EastDevonWay</span></a>, &amp; through lovely ancient woodlands. The feel of spring in the air.</p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/walking" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>walking</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/GetOutside" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GetOutside</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/holloways" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>holloways</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/mosstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>mosstodon</span></a></p>
