Hotspur🏳️🌈🇺🇦<p>"Untitled (Dragon)," Rabindranath Tagore, 1st half of 20th century.</p><p>Born in Bengal, Tagore (1861-1941) was an impressive polymath. Mostly remembered today as a poet, he was also a composer, author, playwright, philosopher, social reformer, and a painter, and a major figure of the Bengal Renaissance. He is often credited with singlehandedly reshaping Bengali literature and music, and combining Modernism with traditional Indian painting.</p><p>He was the first non-European to win a Nobel Prize (for literature, in 1913), but didn't start painting until he was in his 60s. He drew in all sorts of influences from Western and Indian art. He is also now believed to have been red/green color blind, which explains the unusual color schemes and aesthetics of his works. </p><p>His was a remarkable life, crammed with incident and achievement; I suggest you look into it yourself!</p><p>From a private collection.</p><p><a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Art</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/IndianArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IndianArt</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/BengalRenaissance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BengalRenaissance</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/RabindranathTagore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RabindranathTagore</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Modernism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Modernism</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Dragon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Dragon</span></a> <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/NobelPrizeWInner" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NobelPrizeWInner</span></a></p>
