Richard Rollinson<p>Corn-fest continues. Second picking, another dozen ears to the table tonight. Too hot to cook indoors, so the boiling happens outside in the big corn pot. BeetBear keeps count for us.<br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/NewEngland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewEngland</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/zone6b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zone6b</span></a> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/gardening" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>gardening</span></a></span> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/BeetBear" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BeetBear</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/SweetCorn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SweetCorn</span></a></p>
Richard Rollinson<p>The Kentucky Blue green beans are still producing lots of beans, in spite of the plants being all frizzled by the heat. Got almost a full basket this morning, just before the heat index topped 100°F (38°C) again. Going back inside for ice tea &amp; pineapple juice on the rocks... 😀 <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/NewEngland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewEngland</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/zone6b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zone6b</span></a> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/gardening" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>gardening</span></a></span></p>
Belle (she/her)<p>Four hours and a little bit of a sunburn later…the garden is weeded! With all the rain we’ve had lately it was getting a bit out of control. The tomatoes have finally taken off and the peppers are starting to flower. <br><a href="https://kind.social/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://kind.social/tags/zone6b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zone6b</span></a> <a href="https://kind.social/tags/weeding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>weeding</span></a></p>
Richard Rollinson<p>This rain and humidity has the squashes and cukes pumping out more surplus daily. It's getting hard to keep up. More surplus for the neighbors went out this morning and I found a nice note in the cart when I went to pick it all up later. Everything gone in about two hours. 😀 <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/NewEngland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewEngland</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/zone6b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zone6b</span></a> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/gardening" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>gardening</span></a></span></p>
Richard Rollinson<p>The corn-fest has begun! First 8 ears of what we hope will be more than 200 (fingers crossed). I know people have OPINIONS about cooking corn but around here we get the water boiling before we pick, pick &amp; shuck the corn, and drop it in the boiling water for 3-5 minutes and bring it to the table for immediate consumption. Butter and salt to taste. BTW this is a yellow &amp; white super sweet variety called "Flagler" .<br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/NewEngland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewEngland</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/zone6b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zone6b</span></a> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/gardening" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>gardening</span></a></span> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/BeetBear" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BeetBear</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/SweetCorn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SweetCorn</span></a></p>

Richard Rollinson<p>Well, a small shower rolled through just after 5 PM and dropped .15 inches (about 4mm) of rain. Not nearly enough but it'll do for now. Temperature dropped from 99°F (37.2°C) actual at 3 PM to 78°F (26°C) at 5:30 PM. Hoping the high heat stays away for a few days now...<br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/NewEngland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewEngland</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/zone6b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zone6b</span></a> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/gardening" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>gardening</span></a></span></p>
Richard Rollinson<p>In case anyone was wondering, I AM getting some tomatoes, but they are slow in coming and a little small. The Sweet 100's are doing the best. They all taste mighty good, no matter what. Heat index just went over 118°F (48°C) and there's thunder rumbling to the NorthWest. We could do with a drop of rain, it's getting a little dusty out there...<br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/NewEngland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewEngland</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/zone6b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zone6b</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/BeetBear" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BeetBear</span></a> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/gardening" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>gardening</span></a></span></p>
Richard Rollinson<p>It's another ripe stinker out there again this morning. Heat index is already at 106°F (41°C) at 10AM. Got a lot of the veg. picked last night as the sun was going down and the rest this morning in dawn's early light. No more gardening for me today! Here's today's surplus, out for the neighbors. We've added green beans (Kentucky Blue) and onions (Ailsa Craig) to the mix today. The rest is cukes, zucchini, sunburst squash, and eggplant.<br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/NewEngland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewEngland</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/zone6b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zone6b</span></a> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/gardening" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>gardening</span></a></span></p>

Richard Rollinson<p>BeetBear helped me harvest our onions today. Variety is "Ailsa Craig". Not a bad crop this year, but we've done better. We take what the garden provides. Onions are now laid out to dry for a few days before I string them up to hang until I need them. These are not particularly long keepers, but suit me fine. 😀 <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Allotment</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/NewEngland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NewEngland</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/zone6b" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zone6b</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/BeetBear" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BeetBear</span></a> <br><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Onions" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Onions</span></a> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/gardening" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>gardening</span></a></span></p>

Richard Rollinson<p>Nice cool-ish morning. We had a rain overnight (.25 inches / 6 mm) that broke the heat. It was a good morning to go out and chop-and-drop all those pesky weeds.
