A company in #Spain has a plan to torture a million #octopuses per year – by raising them in crowded tanks and then killing them by putting them in icy water, which causes a slow, stressful death.
The company knows octopuses are highly intelligent and feel pleasure, pain, joy and fear, but this is their way of turning a huge #profit. Now they’re being slammed by #scientists and the #media – and if enough of us add to the pressure right now we can stop them.

Seafood giant Nueva Pescanova plans to dump a million live octopuses a year into icy tanks, where they'll slowly and painfully freeze to death. Then sell them to supermarkets.
Our petition to stop this cruelty has ignited a firestorm on social media. It's gotten over half a million signatures, and a growing number of EU leaders are voicing their opposition. Nueva Pescanova is starting to feel the heat

WTF is wrong with humans.
@anna_lillith
These are highly intelliigent & sentient animals. Why is a farm even being considered?
@anna_lillith ooh good, now let's do cow farms!
@anna_lillith Good! Stop eating everything you see FFS!
@anna_lillith
Good. I’ve started to think of octopus as basically persons.
“I worked with a team at London School of Economics to write a report reviewing the evidence of sentience in animals. Does the animal have the capacity to feel emotions? We found really strong evidence in octopuses and it ended up changing UK law. Now under UK law, we have to treat octopuses ethically and with compassion.”
@Voline @anna_lillith all animals should be assumed to have some sort of sentient experience. They're our equals on this planet, we're nothing without them. :(
