He watches so much TV that his stream of consciousness diatribes speak to the shared subconscious of his followers. They identify with him because he speaks as they think. His potato brain is helpful, inasmuch as it strips out any sophistication and nuance, allowing him to uncritically speak to archetypal (not truly libidinal) desires. His sales and media training, along with mob connections, ensure that his performance is entertaining and less explicit.
