The news about new investigations into possibly previous unconnected #BTK murders meant I couldn't resist listening to the audio version of John Douglas' BTK book (even though the narrator doesn't know how to pronounce Quantico).
Yes, ACAB includes John Douglas too of course, but as a #truecrime junkie it is hard to resist his takes on the genre which are harder hitting and far more credible than most armchair detectives. #serialkillers
@famousblueben How did they pronounce Quantico?
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon Quan-teeco (like rhyming with Rico)
@famousblueben IDK man, the producer or sound engineer or someone should have put the kibosh on that real quick-like.
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon Its sooo bad, you would have thought somebody would have caught it.
@famousblueben I find it annoying AF when someone narrating an audiobook keeps mispronouncing words they're unfamiliar with.
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon
I was shocked and delighted when Justine Lupe, narrator of Stephen King’s Holly, correctly pronounced Cairo, GA. Not many get that right.
@famousblueben
@adhdeanasl @famousblueben I can understand that, though. That's a regional and legit difference and one that people may not even imagine there is an alternative pronunciation for.
I'm just talking about everyday words or scientific words that could easily have been looked up in the dictionary.
One pet peeve: pronouncing "processes" as /praw-cess-EEZ/.
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon I absolutely get that. Another point of contention for me is accents.
@adhdeanasl What do you mean? Everyone has an accent. Of course, there are some I like better than others, but I guess most people feel that way to some degree.
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon Sorry, when a narrator is attempting an accent they don’t have. Some nail them, others butcher. I’d rather someone not try an accent if they can’t get it right.
@adhdeanasl Oh, gotcha. Yes, I agree. Sometimes that is the worst.
