Things I've done or am in the process of doing for myself, spouse, kids:
retrieve Social Security earnings statements from ssa dot gov
request new hardcopy SSN cards
verify IRS IP pins are current
check safe for official copies of birth certificates and any other key documents (marriage license, etc)
have encrypted photos of drivers licenses, passports, and global entry cards stored on phones and in secure cloud storage
renew passports if necessary and get passport cards
Anything else?
@kims A few week's worth of cash on hand.
@mattblaze
I have that covered along with some portable stores of value. (My old boss was big on protecting against hyperinflation.)
Can't bring myself to buy bitcoin, even if you assured me both that I could keep it safe and that it would double in price in the next three months. Losing money on it would feel bad, and profiting from it would feel so much worse. Everything about it is contaminating.
Antacids. Buy lots more antacids...
@kims And, if the pandemic was any lesson, a lot of toilet paper.
@mattblaze
Lol, this was our bathroom in NYC ten years before the pandemic.
My husband would leave the house without his pants on before he'd let us run out of toilet paper. He's got a mild case of acartohygieiophobia
Gah, what an unbelievably shitty few days this has been, pun absolutely intended.
