Kurashiki Bikan historical quarter is a really cool place—a tourist trap that I didn't mind falling into. It has some very striking scenes in just a few blocks, like these trees and umbrella light displays—really lovely after dark, too
This swan was not impressed by the beauty of Kurashiki and was having a full-on tantrum in the middle of the canal
BTW, if you get to Kurashiki (highly recommended), check out the Kurashiki Kokusai (international) Hotel. Fully up-to-date amenities, but also feels solidly mid-20th century, like you've just stepped off a PanAm jet. And right around the corner from the Bikan. It looks like traditional castle architecture mixed with mid-century Danish modern design
