Time flies when you're having fun 
I've been on Mastodon for 424 days, can't believe it's that long! Joined on 5th November 2022, after a nudge from a fairly non-techie friend.
Whilst things haven't been uniformly perfect it's now at a point I'm really grateful for it - I'm still ducking into X periodically as I've yet to ditch the news addiction completely but Mastodon is very much my "happy place" and it's working out well

It's not such a "trick" nor a secret, but to keep it a "happy place" I've made fairly ruthless use of filters and blocked a bunch of stuff that I keep out, be it because it's likely to annoy me or simply distract me in the wrong way... Many of the things I block are totally legitimate real world issues, I just block to keep things focused here. It works for me!
Luckily I still enjoy disappearing down tech rabbit holes 
just fewer of the unhealthy non-tech rabbit holes that X tempted me with!
