Five and a half years ago @jamesvdm made a post on the Apple subreddit looking for cohosts to join him in making an Apple-focused podcast. Myself and a couple others responded and subsequently recorded the first episode of what is today called The Blue Bubble Podcast. The other cohosts moved on shortly after starting, but James and I have stuck with it this whole time. Five and a half years - 130 episodes.
Along the way we have gotten the opportunity to talk with some pretty amazing people. People I admire, people who have done impressive things, and people who I have been a fan of for years. It was only through the vehicle of our podcast that I had this incredible opportunity, and I owe that entirely to James.
We ended up forming a small but loyal listener community who would occasionally send us their feedback, voice messages, reviews, and coffee suggestions. Though not our primary motivation, we valued their support throughout the years. It honestly amazed us that anyone cared what we had to say. We tried to show our gratitude at least once a year by giving away some kind of Apple product - sometimes financed from our ad revenue but, more often than not, coming out of our own pockets.
More incredible than any of that is, by commenting on a random Reddit post one day, I made a dear friend on the opposite side of the world. Someone whom I have had the opportunity to share a lot more than just an interest in Apple with. Each episode became an opportunity to catch up on life, parenting, politics, careers, and anything and everything else. A lot of life has happened over all this time and I can't believe how fortunate I am to have found another friend to share it with.
Unfortunately, all that life has grown to be too much for us to juggle while also keeping up with the show. So episode 130, covering WWDC, will be our last for the foreseeable future. Check it out, if you get a chance: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-r-apple-show/id1332585582?i=1000616102757
And, with that, I just want to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who has tuned in over the years, thank you to all of our guests, thank you to our families for putting up with us spending so much time on this hobby, and thank you @jamesvdm for making all of this happen in the first place. Hopefully someday we will get a chance to pick our mics up again. It has truly been a blast!
