@JohnHimself Good choice. I've been migrating to as approaches sunset. Still haven't found a good replacement for and its easy to use custom slideshow mode (running it in stinks).

Unfortunately I still have to figure out virtualizing to deal with needing and for work, but at least I can contain the lunacy of and somewhat within the VM.

@DanielMReck XnView MP is worth a look depending on if it fits your use.

KVM for virtualisation has never let me down, and in my experience is about as close to bare metal performance as you can get from a VM.

@JohnHimself I will definitely check out KVM. Do you have any thoughts about how it compares with QEMU?

Unfortunately as far as I can tell the slideshow function in XnView MP does not let you configure an arbitrary list of images in arbitrary locations. It only lets you pick a directory and use the images from there. This is not practical for my purposes.

@DanielMReck KVM makes hardware directly addressable, whereas QEMU addresses via the host OS, so in theory KVM is more performant.

Not that QEMU is a bad option either.

@JohnHimself Thank you. I am just now dipping my toe into virtualization on a Linux desktop host, so I'm appreciative of every piece of experience shared.
