As well as being Citroën's first testbed for rotary engines, the Ami-based M35 (left) featured hydropneumatic suspension and this stylish fastback rear bodywork by Heuliez. The M35 was based on the Ami 8 but the original Ami 6 (right) had this completely different reverse-rake rear window. Remember that reverse-rakery because it provides the link that transitions #davidsdailycar away from #Citroen to a new subject sequence starting tomorrow. Couple of AI renderings of a DS...
@nlarson830 Yes! I must admit, although I’m a big Citroën fan, the Ami leaves me a bit cold.
@davidwilkins @nlarson830 I had the pleasure of driving a #CitroënAmi Super. That used a 1,015 cm³ air coooled flat 4 originally intended for the bigger GS (which then got a bigger 1,222 cm³ engine instead) producing 55 hp — not bad for 1970 on such a light body, 13 Kg/hp, allowing a top speed of 90 mph.
Front disc brakes in the engine compartment!
It was also superbly comfortable on the roughest roads, paved or unpaved.
So rare here, I'm pretty sure I've not seen one in the wild.
@nlarson830 @davidwilkins I’d love to find one again, just because of the uniqueness, but not practical in my current suburban dwelling.
@nlarson830 @davidwilkins If I were living in Europe now, this one would be perfect! The € 10K price reflects the condition.
It has the side stripe and “Ami Super” side badge (instead of the original 1015 badge from earlier models), as well as updated rims, so I think it must have been restored at some point with these elements that were only added to later models.
Production was 1973-76.
