I found this to be an insightful essay by Paul Pedrosky. Since COVID started, the US has been hit with a massive shortage of workers. Structurally there isn’t a way to just create new workers except for immigration and neither political party wants to do that.
So automation is going to be what fills the gap but LLMs while better than previous AI tech aren’t enough to automate knowledge work.
He estimates we won’t see such tech until 2030.
@carnage4life Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t get the logic. “Across retail, restaurants, manufacturing, trades…” — how will AI automation contribute to this labor?
Or are AI-displaced writers and lawyers going to become cooks and plumbers?
