Snapchat is now at 5% of its revenue coming from paid subscriptions from 5 million users paying $3.99/month for access to extra features.
Ads based services are introducing subscriptions while subscription based services are introducing ads. Either way, it’s enshitification as value is being taken from users who are now getting less value than they used to as companies ramp up monetization as the zero interest rate era ends.

@carnage4life snapchat added the My AI functionality that no one seems to like and then said if you want to remove this "feature" you have to pay them money. like it's so blatant that it's just there to be annoying
@carnage4life@mas.to maybe we are just in the process of finding out which companies are actually businesses and which are just holes in the internet where personal data drains out for exploration.
@carnage4life Platforms need to figure out which premium features users actually value. LinkedIn has done this for years. Google's office suite is doing it. Dropbox too. Snap and others can figure it out.
