I I will believe Apple is taking generative AI seriously when they delete all of the Siri code and replace it with a wrapper over ChatGPT.
Siri has been a failed experiment for 12 years and it’s time put it out of our misery for the good of every iPhone user.

@alexanderdyas @carnage4life #AI #LLM I agree. The problem is compounded because LLMs cast a false illusion of authoritative objectivity.
@EpiphanicSynchronicity @carnage4life Yes exactly, I’ve had this argument with people. As if somehow the LLM distills truth out of all the information it is fed. This is very dangerous.
Also, taken to its conclusion, it would stop people from having to make up their own minds based on a variety of sources, an essential skill, particularly right now. I could go on…

@carnage4life spot on. Siri had so much potential and then was lapped almost immediately by the competition 12 years ago.
@carnage4life The way a product like Siri should use generative AI is to translate raw user input into structured input that it can feed to its various data source services.
Letting users interact freely with a generative LLM model would be a big mistake imo.
@carnage4life A benefit of going this route is that they wouldn’t necessarily need a GPT-4 quality model, which means the economics could make sense (and maybe they could even run the model on-device? idk)
@carnage4life I use Siri all day and get huge value. I would also not want Siri to follow the herd to end up with yet more misinformation, often dangerous.

@carnage4life I really need them to integrate GPT with news.
I couldn’t care less an about sports or celebrities and I “thumbs down” every article I see. Yet they still show me those articles. What the hell does that feature even do?
