Serious question: what other company does regressive hardware releases like Nintendo does? Thinking OLED → LCD in the Switch 2. It's kind of ridiculous.

Some copium from Engadget. Imagine if a $630 (CAD) console had all this *and* it was OLED... like their current console.

An OLED Steam Deck is $690 (CAD). Just saying.

@crashthearcade and it will probably go up now that tariffs are here. unlike the switch 2, who probably already calculated this in to things so that at best they can drop the price when possible. there’s so much at play right now that are bigger problems, but this is a symptom of those

@crashthearcade Hm, I'd say it's not necessarily a downgrade. Switch 1 OLED was smaller, 720p, lower refresh rate, and no HDR, right?
Also from what I've heard from people who got their hands on it already, it's a very high quality LCD, so much so that going from Switch 1 OLED to Switch 2 LCD doesn't feel like a downgrade.
Also Switch 2 is more powerful than a Steam Deck and barely more expensive than the LCD Steam Deck. OLED screen would've been too expensive for Nintendo's target.

@NadCee yeah, I think downgrade is maybe not the right word but I'm not sure this is a lateral move either. I think this is just an easy thing for me to focus on and vent my frustrations with the price to be honest.

@crashthearcade Oh and I fully understand your feeling. It's very expensive for a console that will mostly play old games! 😅
