They launched a contest to find his wife,” Ms. Ripe”.

@eatymology Hahaha. I've eaten them properly since the 1950s, but I'm from California.
Did you know that a hundred years ago or so, avocados were considered an aphrodisiac and it was unacceptable for women to eat them. Bahahaha.
@shuttersparks Indeed:) in Nahuatl ‘ahuacatl’ meant both the male organ and avocado, and it was believed to have magical powers that could raise libido. Most likely they didn’t want women to become too excited, therefore they banned them from eating them
@eatymology Yeah, it's all pretty funny looking back on it today. The belief it was an aphrodisiac was prevalent in the U.S.A. and Europe a hundred or so years ago. Given the misogyny of the time, men didn't want women to have any control over sex, whatsoever. So it all makes sense, given that time in history.
I've always wanted to have an avocado tree, But it's probably good that I haven't or I'd weigh 400 pounds.
