@CarveHerName And promptly voted for the Selective Service Act which forced all boys to register for the draft. Not girls though.

@ericlewis @CarveHerName Well 2 things.

1. Selective Service replaced Civil War vintage national draft laws and prevented people from buying their way out of the draft, allowed Blacks to be drafted, and several other changes. Still not perfect but it was seen as an improvement at the time.

2. While there were strong forces supporting women voting, there was basically no one in the first decades of the 20th century who would seriously think women must be part of the draft too/fight. 1/

@ericlewis @CarveHerName Basically that doesn't come about until after WW2 and the actions of women auxiliaries and European, Asian, and other partisan groups where women fought along side men. Also the Spanish Republicans had many women fighters during that slightly earlier conflict.

And really its not until the last 30 years we see women combatants in the US. And there is so much conservative pushback against that.
