Tri practice is hard, because you’re basically doing a full triathlon as a practice run. On the upside, by race day I’ll have done a few of these so it will presumably be less scary. I’m just exhausted.

@erikavaris I did the Kona 70.3 probably eight years ago. I'm not a strong swimmer. I hate biking. And - when I'm honest with myself - I also don't like running. But a buddy of mine challenged me to do it and he was willing to do it as well

So I got a coach ( jenrulon.com/ ), did whatever she told me to do, showed up at the starting line, and knocked it out

Finishing is fantastic because it is a reflection of all the hard work you put in. I hope you have a great event!

You got this

@erikavaris And if you decide that you really don't like yourself look at what the goruckevents.com/ folks have to offer 😀

@danielcornell oh nooooo, if I want to “ruck” I’ll go backpacking thank you much lol.

@danielcornell I like swimming, I just need to keep getting over the fear in the ocean. The first leg was rough, because I needed to get over being afraid before I could really settle into the swim.

I love running. Still hate the bike, but I’m also coming to the conclusion that if I had a bike meant for roads (ie not a mountain bike), I might not hate it as much. Sigh. More gear.

@erikavaris Ocean swim (in Kona) was fine for me because water was clear and I could see the bottom. And all the wildlife got scared off by people faster than me. I did a prep event at a lake in Marble Falls, TX where it was all black and that sucked

Don't know what distance you're doing, but a road bike is probably an unfortunate requirement for anything past Olympic length and a really-ought-to-have for shorter events. Bought an OK bike for Kona and haven't ridden it since. Still worth it

@danielcornell the bike portion is around 17 miles, with rolling hills. It is *possible* to do it on my mountain bike, it’s just real slow. Also my bike is “vintage”, old enough that the gear hooks are worn down a bit so I can’t stand and pedal at the same time cause the chain will skip. (And these parts are only available now on used bike forums, says the shop.)
I’m looking into a newer used bike right now, in the hopes that this will solve some problems.

@erikavaris Yeah damn that distance is RIGHT on the margin. If you can pick up a used bike that may be the smart play
