Ok #SheepOfMastodon folks here’s a motley crew for you. I’ve consulted my sheep breeds tote bag and suggestions/guesses in alt-text. How did I do?
@helenclayton There's something about the sheep with horns in the first photo that suggests something like a Swaledale to me.
And I think the third might be a Shetland of some description. Their fleece colour variations are a whole wall chart in themselves.
@sheepnik I wondered about swaledale too but the picture I have shows them with white ‘spectacles’. I usually misidentify shetlands! Probably bc of the variation.
Btw the sheep tote bag is thanks to you. I need a wall chart too!
@helenclayton If it's not already in your diary, the Aberystwyth show is usually early June, and is a good chance to see lots of different type of sheep.
@sheepnik I shall have to check the dates!
@helenclayton There's loads of smaller shows throughout the summer too, and the Royal Welsh at Builth of course.
@sheepnik I like a good agricultural show. When I worked for Devon County Council we would do all of them, but they were a casualty of cuts eventually.
@helenclayton not sure but I think at least one of the sheep that look like blackface might be a mule, that's a cross between blackface and Blue Faced Leicester. Blackface are quite small, these look a little bigger in stature. Third ones not a herdie, is it another badger face? Not easy, is it?
@Ivor ah ok the cross breeds complicate things further!
@helenclayton I think I last saw that badgerface in the 4th photo playing the lead in Rocky Horror …
@BashStKid @helenclayton I think you must be Timewarped saying something like that.
@helenclayton I’m not even going to attempt to to ID them but there are some stunners there and they look well cared for
