I've heard the suggestion that Facebook is great if you're interested in people, and Twitter is great if you're interested in ideas. That was certainly the reason that I favoured Twitter!

@jameswallbank True, to an extent - though, really I only use Facebook to follow topic-based groups, I only follow a handful of people. The ultimate topic-based ‘social network’ currently is #reddit , I guess
