I'm so confused by this "free Palestine"/NHS poppy badge doing the rounds... what have these got to do together or with rememberance of past wars. And why is Princess Diana involved?!

@zefrog I completely see the connection between poppies and Palestine: poppies are all about remembering why we fought against an army that was involved in genocide. And that we should remember the "genocide is bad" bit more than our current crop of politicians do.

But what the NHS and Princess Diana have to do with it totally beats me.

@statsguy poppies were originally about WWI, and has now become a fundraising gimmick for the British Legion, extended to remember vets of all wars. Nothing directly lonked to genocide

@zefrog I think it's legitimate to consider poppies as a way to remember WWII as well as WWI these days.

@statsguy yes, but, as I said: no direct links to genocide. It's about the soldiers

@zefrog For me, much of it is to remember what the soldiers were fighting for. And in WWII, that was clearly about fighting Hitler's regime and all that it stood for.

(A lot less clear what they were fighting for in WWI, of course)
