Finally saw the #Elephant6 doc. Younger me never would’ve imagined that an in-depth examination of what were profoundly mysterious bands would see the light of day. Loved most of ‘em, I’ll tell you what. Caught #OliviaTremorControl in NYC and Philly a couple of times, was in short-lived bands that played w/ the Minders and Elf Power, and caught Of Montreal + one explosive #NeutralMilkHotel show back then. 27 years ago the #Elephant6Collective band The Olivia Tremor Control released the classic #PsychedelicRock LP Dusk at Cubist Castle. Its 10 most experimental tracks share the title "Green Typewriters." This completely breaks analytics for the kinds of dorks (like me) who like to track everything they listen to. So, exactly the people who listen to OTC in the 2020s.

Worth a read for any Neutral Milk Hotel fans, though a horrid, misleading title and mostly snobby writing. However, I did not know about Mangum's obsession with Naomi Yang (Galaxie 500, Damon & Naomi; listen to both).
As someone who lived through the 90s #IndieMusic scene, I think this author misunderstood the indie aesthetic.
Not to mention I did not find anything likeable about about the other #Elephant6 bands. They were pop.
