David Hempleman-Adams' daughter Camilla had an astonishingly expensive holibob ski-touring a Canadian island, and made some grandiose claims about being the first woman to do so. Cue the somewhat surprised locals, who pointed out that their womenfolk - and even men - have been doing it on a yearly basis since before history was invented.

Note also the politician's apology:

"I am truly saddened that the coverage of my journey may have caused concern or upset..."

Well, no: the upset is mainly about the claims you made, not the journey or its coverage.

Sometimes having to get up to answer the call of nature is rewarding. Our first night off the icecap two of our tents and the rising sun at Laguna Ferrari in Patagonia on our way back to civilisation, still two days away. This photo was taken in 2014.

This image brings back quite emotive memories for me & conveys the full emptiness that is the Southern Patagonian Icecap.

Life here is very simple, arrive at camp, build snow walls, eat, drink & sleep. Sometimes we have sheltered for days in blizzard conditions. You can't afford a mistake, being 3+ days from human settlements.

Snow walls ... & who'd have thought there's so many technicalities in their construction?

New season of #Expeditions game has brought us another map that is reusing assets of Arizona region.

August was a BIG #boardgames month for me with 60 different games played over 115 plays! It was a lot of fun trying new games (thanks to #BoardGameArena and get togethers), but honestly I’m a bit exhausted!

Highlights of the month are #GaiaProject (and its sibling #TerraMystica), freshly picked #ButtonShy games #SkullsOfSedlec and #Numbsters, #Expeditions, and #CosmicFrog!

I played another #solo game of #Expeditions with #GearsOfCorruption tonight.

1. I moved the difficulty up one notch and lost by 5 points. It wasn't too hard, but I think it was more...

2. Tried out two new characters, Baaliahon and Zephon, and I just couldn't get the hang of it. They don't have normal Solve or Vanquish actions, so this threw me for a loop

3. Tried a new Mech, Scarecrow, and I enjoyed it's variable power

4. Corrupted Mech again did nothing

I ended up being victorious in my first #solo #Expeditions game using the #GearsOfCorruption expansion, 63 to 53.

The Corrupted Mech was neat but it only took one resource from me. It tended to just wander off into the wilds of Siberia and I didn't pay much attention to it after the first few rounds.

I was only on level 2 automa and now that I've played quite a few games of Expeditions, I think I need to increase the level a notch.

I'm about to open #GearsOfCorruption for the first time and try out the Corrupted Mech mode in a #solo play of #Expeditions

Recently picked up #Expeditions and its expansion, Gears of Corruption, and finally had time to get it to the table for a couple solo plays! Bit of a table hog, but the large tiles make for easy reading/icon recognition. The game is easier to learn than its older sibling Scythe, but it doubles down on the mysterious alternate 1920s world!
