Designing with Feeling: 2SLGBTQIA+ Vibe Coding (3of3)

Deep Work and the Power of Unplugging

Vibe Coding requires deep focus, similar to Cal Newport’s “Deep Work” concept. It's about working without distractions on demanding tasks, allowing you to tap into your intuition.

In 2023, I took a year-long social media break, which significantly enhanced my Deep Work skills. This focused period helped me better connect with the emotional core of my designs. If you're considering a similar break, I can attest to its transformative impact on your creative process.

Why Vibe Coding Matters
Ultimately, people engage more with products that make them feel safe and good.

As a no-code UX Designer, prioritizing user emotions is paramount. Vibe Coding lets me create apps that are both functional and emotionally supportive, especially for marginalized groups.

Your Turn
Have you ever designed something based on intuition? What emotions do you aim to evoke in your work?

Designing with Feeling: 2SLGBTQIA+ Vibe Coding (2of3)

My 2SLGBTQIA+ App Experience
Yesterday, I used Vibe Coding for a grief recovery app tailored to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. I wanted it to feel:

1. Affirming
2. Safe and inclusive
3. Hopeful and celebratory

Here’s how I achieved that
1. used pastel and pink colours, which resonate with gentleness and inclusivity within the community
2. chose affirming and inclusive language, avoiding potentially triggering terms
3. included diverse and vibrant imagery representing the 2SLGBTQIA+ experience
4. focused on clean layouts and intuitive navigation to prevent overwhelm

Designing with Feeling: 2SLGBTQIA+ Vibe Coding (1of3)

Have you ever worked on an app and just felt the right way to design it? That's "Vibe Coding." It's not about writing code, but about creating experiences based on how you want people to feel.

As a no-code UX Designer, I recently discovered this term, but it's how I've always approached designing for specific communities. Simply put, it's using your intuition to build digital products that connect emotionally.

How Vibe Coding Works
Vibe Coding centers on intentionally creating a specific feeling. Here's how:

1. Identify the Desired Feeling: Start by asking: How do I want users to feel? Safe? Celebrated? Understood?
2. Design for That Feeling: Use colours, images, and language to evoke those emotions. Think of it as setting the mood of your app
3. Test the Emotional Impact: Through user testing, see if people actually feel the way you intended

I'm curious to hear what others are #SelfHosting! Here's my current setup:

Hardware & OS

Infrastructure & Networking

Security & Monitoring

Authentication & Identity Management

  • Authelia (Docker): Just set this up for two-factor authentication and single sign-on. Seems to be working well so far!
  • LLDAP (Docker): Lightweight LDAP server for managing authentication. Also seems to be working pretty well!
    #AuthenticationTools #IdentityManagement

Productivity & Personal Tools

Notifications & Development Workflow

  • Notifications via: #Ntfy (Docker) and Zoho's ZeptoMail (#Zoho)
  • Development Environment: Mostly using VSCode connected to my server via Remote-SSH extension. #VSCodeRemote

Accessibility Focus ♿🖥️

Accessibility heavily influences my choices—I use a screen reader full-time (#ScreenReader), so I prioritize services usable without sight (#InclusiveDesign#DigitalAccessibility). Always open to discussing accessibility experiences or recommendations!

I've also experimented with:

  • Ollama (#Ollama): Not enough RAM on my Pi.
  • Habit trackers like Beaver Habit Tracker (#HabitTracking): Accessibility issues made it unusable for me.

I don't really have a media collection, so no Plex or Jellyfin here (#MediaServer)—but I'm always open to suggestions! I've gotten a bit addicted to exploring new self-hosted services! 😄

What's your setup like? Any cool services you'd recommend I try?

Honored. Inspired. Driven.

Last week at #CSUN2025, we had the incredible opportunity to connect, learn, and grow alongside some of the most innovative minds in accessibility and assistive technology. As a fully remote team, gathering in person is always meaningful, but being part of conversations that shape the future of our technology makes it even more special.

We’re grateful for the chance to hear from industry leaders, learn from fellow innovators, and connect with Explorers (both new and those who have been here from the start) who shape the work we do every day. Having a seat at this table is an honor, and we’re more committed than ever to making Aira the best it can be.

Thank you, Center on Disabilities at CSUN, for another unforgettable year!

Okay, this is just stupid! One of the benefits of having a #website is that people can access your services at any time, day or night, right? Well, I just went to the #SocialSecurity website to try and get a benefit verification letter, which I need because I'm trying to reestablish a #VocationalRehabilitation case. I clicked "Sign In" and was greeted by this message:

This service is not available at this time.
Please try again during our regular service hours (Eastern Time):

| Day | Service Hours |
|-----|--------------|
| Monday-Friday | 4:15 a.m. - 1:00 a.m. |
| Saturday | 5:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. |
| Sunday | 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 p.m. |
| Federal Holidays | Same hours as the day the holiday occurs. |

If you need immediate assistance:

  • You may call us Monday through Friday: 8:00AM - 7:00PM at: 1-800-772-1213
  • If you are deaf or hard-of-hearing, call our toll-free TTY number: 1-800-325-0778

This of the website limitation is especially frustrating for me because I have a #Non24HourSleepWakeDisorder and an unpredictable schedule. It feels like the website is designed without thinking about people like me who need flexibility.
Has anyone else out there had similar issues with government services or other websites?
