04-19-2025 - #OlympiaWA - Debbie

This is Debbie. Debbie stopped us downtown requesting that we take her picture.

In conversation Debbie reflected that she'd recently lost her residence. When inquiring how this happened Debbie reflected this was a result of a fire near the post office. We were familiar with this fire and stopped by the residence about 1 week after it occurred.

Debbie reflected she'd been given a few items and a small amount of money for a hotel stay after the fire, but it didn't last long.

By coincidence when we visited Debbie's former residence several Olympia Fire Department members arrived at nearly the same time for an inspection. During the inspection they reflected a low-hanging wire in the alley that slightly inhibited positioning a fire truck.

Like others downtown sometimes people are just looking for someone to talk to. Or more importantly looking for someone who will listen.

I was lucky enough to get called out on my conservative bullshit by a local elderqueer #OlyWA just in time to be my younger brother's biggest ally.

They seemed "better" for a while... but not enough to be safe for my children.

03-14-2025 - #OlympiaWA - (2) Events: Veterans Rally + Housing Rally

The Capitol was busy on Friday with two separate yet unifying events representing #Veterans and #Housing advocacy. The Veterans rally was held on the Capitol lawn while the Housing rally was held on the Capitol steps. Both events occurred simultaneously. Veterans expressed frustrations over the #Trump administration and #Federal cuts. Housing advocates represented HB1217 capping rent increases, along with "VOTE NO" on I-2109 and I-2117. A convergence of protesters and #protest signs representing both Veterans and Housing topics were seen. Veterans were at the Capitol steps supporting HB1217, while housing advocates were also on the Capitol lawn supporting Veterans.

03-08-2025 - #OlympiaWA - International Women's Day

Hundreds attended an International Women's Day protest in Olympia yesterday where the clear majority of energy was in response to the #Trump administration. Protest signs and chants contrasted Trump policies on women's rights, equality and human rights across the board. The peaceful yet vocal #protest had one or two anti-abortion Trump supporter counter-protesters, one of which was relatively known. Overall the Capitol lawn has taken a beating lately from #protests so we might advise boots for those attending future events.

02-17-2025 - #OlympiaWA #OlyWA - Presidents' Day, 50501 Fifty Protests, Fifty States, One Day - Washington State Capitol

Thousands of #protesters showed at the Capitol on Monday in response to orange man and his crony friends. #Antifascist #protest signs were in abundance with non-stop references to Donald #Trump and Elon Musk. Large crowds gathered at the side of Capitol Blvd, in a circle on the lawn of the Capitol and at the Capitol steps.

An interesting trend seen in the #PNW #Washington #Oregon lately includes "Pro-America, Anti-Trump" protesters with an effort to "take back the flag". Other more classically right-wing representations such as #constitutional t-shirts, constitutional protest signs, references to supporting "law and order" and "rule of law" were seen.

Excerpt from February 13th "Governor Bob Ferguson Press Conference" (seen on TVW.org):

REPORTER: "With regards to your 100 million dollar proposed state grant program for local #police departments, what would you say to bystanders, #journalists and demonstrators who sustained permanent and serious injury during racial #justice #protests in 2020, in which police departments namely the #Seattle police department were found in violation by #federal courts with regards to failing to respect peoples constitutional rights" (CLIPPED)

FERGUSON: "I hear your question but, I'm also aware that we rank last, per capita, the number of law enforcement #officers we have, in the united states, and so I hear your thoughts and what's in your statement, but we need to move forward on making sure that #Washington is a safe place for all Washingtonians" (CLIPPED)
