“The one thing that can stop the rise of the far right is the one thing mainstream parties are currently not prepared to deliver: greater equality. The rich should be taxed more, and the revenue used to improve the lives of the poor. However frantically centrist parties avoid the issue, there is no other way.” (George Monbiot)

Of course, it’s only come to this due to the lack of #taxReform , progressive social #legislation , and #FinancialRegulation action from all govt since the 2008 #GFC . #Neoliberalism ,#CorporateCapitalism and #Globalisation have been left unfettered to carry on this foolish race to the bottom.

The Guardian · Rightwing populists will keep winning until we grasp this truth about human natureBy George Monbiot

#YanisVaroufakis: "Many refer to this world — the one in which #GenX grew up — as the #neoliberal era, others associate it with #globalisation, some identify it with #financialisation. It’s all the same thing — the world the #NixonShock begat and which the 2008 financial crash shook to its foundations. After the 2009 bailouts, although US hegemony continued unabated, it lost much of its dynamism. Today, the Nixon Shock has run out of steam — at least from the perspective of the Trumpists who want to give #UShegemony a second (or is it a third?) wind. This is the whole point of the #TrumpShock and its masterplan, including tactical moves such as enlisting #crypto to their cause."

UnHerd · Will Liberation Day transform the world?By Yanis Varoufakis

Is it so bad if there is less #globalisation and somewhat, less focus on shipping #trade goods around the globe, rather than locally?

I see that it's vital in some ways & a huge financial boost to countries which have something to offer, ofcourse, but I've often thought, it doesn't bode well for the #environment, globally. When I've heard ministers discussing trade agreements in the past, it seems contradictory to their other goals of reducing #carbon and #climate initiatives.

Any opinions?

'An uncertain elite : Professional differences and similarities between engineers and tech workers in times of digital transformation' - a new '#WorkOrganisation, #Labour & #Globalisation' article by Pluto Journals on #ScienceOpen:

ScienceOpenAn uncertain elite : Professional differences and similarities between engineers and tech workers in times of digital transformation
The digital transformation of industries has given rise to new categories of tech workers, such as software engineers and UX/UI designers, who now work alongside traditional engineers. This study explores the evolving relationship between these groups, focusing on work processes, status perceptions and professional interactions. The research questions addressed include: how has digitalisation affected these two groups’ work processes? what strategies do they use to maintain or improve their career paths? and how do their roles converge or diverge? Using qualitative data from interviews and workshops in a German automotive company undergoing a digital and electric mobility transformation, the study finds both competition and cooperation between engineers and IT professionals, with the former adopting some IT work methods and the latter adjusting to the highly structured processes of the industrial sector. Despite growing overlaps, distinct professional identities nevertheless remain.
