Quick update: This is totally related to wifi for me. At least, that is my starting point. I mislead everyone earlier. With no radios on, basically making it just a watch, the battery lasted very well. Full charged at 2 PM, had 60% left at 10 PM.

This morning, I put it on at 6 AM after charging overnight. Posting this at 9 AM and I now at 50% of battery in 3 hours of office work. No Bluetooth, or walkie talkie enabled, just Wi-Fi.

Battery issues since upgrading my #Apple #iwatch series 6 to the latest #watchOS 11.0.

I charged my watch overnight. Put it on at 6:15 AM, battery is drained by 1 PM. I am just sitting at my desk, no need to track me doing anything. I even turned off my radios to see if that would help…nothing.

Prior to this update. I could go all day (office day) and by 9 PM at night, I would be around 40% of battery remaining. Something in this latest update needs a patch…

Apple Announcement Disappointment

With Apple's phone and watch announcements yesterday, I find myself disappointed in the newest releases.

I have an iWatch Ultra 2 and was looking forward to an upgrade, even though my watch is barely a year old. I wanted to see a bigger screen, a lighter watch, longer battery life, and larger memory, plus some enhancements to the iOS, especially in the activities and fitness areas. Sadly for me, there is no reason to upgrade. It makes me wonder if the Ultra line has a future at Apple.

In general I'm an AI skeptic so for any AI product from any company my base comment is, "prove to me that AI has real value." Apple Intelligence may be valuable at some point, but it needs to achieve the "Wow" factor. Maybe it and Siri will eventually.

I have an iPhone 14 Pro so I was looking for a major camera hardware and feature enhancement that might entice me. Looks like I wait another year to see if it makes sense to upgrade my phone.

#Apple isn't alone in 'improving' things to make them shiny and new. There have been a few instances when they have 'fixed' things that really didn't need fixing and actually added steps into the functioning of a device. My Apple 6 #iwatch becomes less and less functional with each OS iteration. The IOS18 Control Center is a hot mess 🤣

#iWatch #app #MEcfs #pacing
Just discovered a small app in the appstore, developed by a NZ developer @ddp With no data tracking!

Adds threshold for heart rate, steps, distance, calories expended etc. looks like it would be helpful to #PWmecfs who used an iWatch.

However, on searching #WatchME, I found there is another, different app with the same name, which runs on Windows.

Pity an iWatch is so pricey 🤭

Integrated with HealthKit. This app uses the Health app to monitor resting, average and maximum heart rates, heart rate variab…

Apple iWatch Upgrade - a technologist's experience

Once I confirmed that the cell connection worked for mine, I focused on my wife's watch.

Surprisingly, the experience was different. And there were also a few issues, some different than when upgrading mine.

The first problem was that it wouldn't pair with the new watch. In her case she has the iPhone 14 Pro Max. One wouldn't think that would matter relative to my iPhone 14 Pro.

I had to shutdown and restart her iPhone to get it to pair with the watch.

Even though both iPhones had the latest iOS, mine required some small installation to pair with my watch whereas this wasn't required for her phone. The installation sequence was slightly different for her watch, for some reason. I experienced the same confusing displays when connecting to the cellular. Again, not everything that was backed up was restored. For example her custom watch face was not restored, where as mine was.

Upgrading technology is never fun or easy.

Apple iWatch Upgrade - a technologist's experience

My wife and I upgraded our iWatch 4s to the new series 9 Ultra 2. It was time to do so. Hardware wears out. The feature delta between a 5 year old product and the new product becomes meaningful and in some cases, this case, compelling.

We did the same last year when we upgraded from our iPhone 6S to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. It too was time to do so.

I usually upgrade when there's one or more features added that I've wanted in the product, or, when there's no choice.

Even though I own a tech company and am conversant with technology, I always dread the product installation and migration. Even Apple, a very good company, doesn't get it quite right.

I upgraded my watch first. There were a few issues. I had to restart when it hung connecting the phone to the watch. Connecting to the cellular was confusing. Not everything that was backed up was restored.
