My favorite photo from our walk today. It was such a beautiful spot I had to stop and appreciate that I was there at that particular moment.

#MarshMadness day 22
Not many leaves on the trees yet, so marshes look less lush, but it's still a marsh!
If you can spare a few minutes for our environment, please leave a comment against the Removal of the National Environmental Policy Act. This is the "Magna Carta" of environmental laws in the US, and removing will bring total destruction. Once removed, it will be easy to decimate even our National Parks. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2025/02/25/2025-03014/removal-of-national-environmental-policy-act-implementing-regulations Comments close next week.
#MarshMadness day 21
Two little isopods, Lirceus sp. They are not technically from a marsh they are from a spring, but the spring was rather tiny marsh-like so I am counting it.
Right now I am trying to get people to step up for our environment as the public comment period draws to a close on removing the National Environmental Policy Act. This will effectively destroy almost all environment protections in the United States. If you were worried they will destroy the National Parks for profit, rest assured this is the first step. By removing NEPA, they *will be able to*. Easily.
Please, go leave your comment (https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2025/02/25/2025-03014/removal-of-national-environmental-policy-act-implementing-regulations), call your senators and congress, and keep fighting for nature.

Bashful Wakerobin (Trillium catesbaei) found near the water's edge of a marsh.

We have only six more days to comment about the looming removal of NEPA: National Environmental Policy Act. This act was a simple yet very effective framework for protecting our environment and has far and wide reaching positive effects. It is often called the "Magna Carta" of our environment laws. NEPA was one of the first laws ever written that establishes the broad national framework for protecting our environment. For example, sewage treatment to ensure clean water is a direct result from NEPA. It was signed into law by Nixon, and has enjoyed bipartisan support.

Today is a little different. Today I am asking you for action, especially if you live in the US.

A bit of history on the law side: https://www.epa.gov/archive/epa/aboutepa/1988-article-nepa-past-present-and-future.html
Overall history: https://www.historylink.org/File/9903
Quote of note:
"Russell Train, the council’s original chairman, looked back on NEPA’s legacy 40 years after its signing by writing, “It is fair to say that NEPA brought environment front and center to federal agencies, and this can be deemed a success brought about, in no small part, by the many federal employees and citizens who have applied the law over these decades. ... No longer could federal agencies say ‘we know best’ ... . NEPA democratized decision-making”

#MarshMadness Day 16!
I am sorry I am running out of marshy goodness....but enjoy my pup sitting by a marsh! I love the little yellow flowers, I probably should have taken some macro photos for ID purposes. Huh. Whoops.
Also I must be cool because I got Nicole'd! (One of those "hey be my friends I'm a lonely fediverse chick" accounts that is spam.)
#MarshMadness day 15
What does this funky thing have to do with marshes?! Well, this is an amphipod, genus Crayngonyx. They inhabit springs (including cave springs), but also can be found in marshes!
Alright, all you #wetland lovers - I'm digging all the #MarshMadness photos you're sharing, but I hope you're also preparing for #Swamptember and #Bogtober this fall and #Fenuary early next year!
Let's make this happen.
